More than 1,000 people now face ban of up to 10 years on travelling to Britain after their visa applications were refused by the UK Border Agency here for allegedly submitted forged documents or provided false information.

“In the first nine months of 2010,almost 1,000 visa applicants have had their visa applications refused by UKBA in Chennai and now face upt o a 10-year ban because they submitted forged documentation or false information,” a press release from British Deputy High Commission said here today.

The release,quoting UKBA Entry Clearance Manager,Gemma Dodgson said their document checks are very thorough and they refuse applications which are supported by false documents.

“Applicants also face a ban of upto 10 years on travel to the UK,” she said in the statement.

The release said UKBA and Chennai police have co-operated in the recent arrest of a UK visa applicant for visa fraud.

“The applicant was arrested at the UK Border Agency offices in Chennai on 8th October after submitting falsified documents in support of a Tier 1 (highly skilled migrant) visa application,” the release added.
