HYDERABAD, MARCH 22: The main Opposition Congress on Monday stalled the proceedings of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for over 30 minutes demanding a discussion on “the erratic power supply and low voltage problems adversely affecting the farmers in backward areas.”
Immediately after Speaker Y Ramakrishnudu announced that the adjournment motion was disallowed, Congress members rushed to the well of the House displaying dried up stalks of paddy collected during their recent tour to Nalgonda district and demanded discussion on the issue setting aside question hour.
When the Speaker took objection to the unauthorised display of objects in the House, T Jeevan Reddy, M Narsimloo and K Jyothi Devi rushed to the podium waving the dried up stalks and newspaper clippings. The trio, sent back by their senior leaders after the Speaker said that the members rushing to the podium would be liable for suspension without even a motion being carried, resumed slogan shouting from the well of the House.
While theSpeaker contended that the issue was discussed during demands on power and agriculture and he would post it to a later date, Floor Leader Janardhan Reddy demanded that the state went back on assurance of providing uninterrupted nine hour power supply to farmers.
