Four Crime Branch officials of the Mumbai police, arrested by the Maharashtra CID for their alleged complicity in the custodial death of Ghatkopar blast accused Khwaja Yunus, were today remanded in police custody till March 11 by a Vikhroli court.

In a related development, the CID sought permission of the court to conduct scientific tests on the accused, including lie detector tests, narco-analysis tests and brain mapping tests. The court will decide the matter during next hearing.

Inspector Praful Bhosale and his colleagues from the Ghatkopar Crime Branch unit, inspector Rajaram Vhanmane, assistant inspector Hemant Desai and S-I Ashok Khot have been booked for murder and causing disappearance of evidence. While police alleged that Yunus had escaped from custody on January 7, 2003, and was not traceable, a co-accused alleged that he died of police assault in jail.

The court pulled up the investigating officer for approaching him in his chamber privately in connection with the case.
