HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 2: In a major blow to the outlawed People’s War Group (PWG), three of its central committee members including the second-in-command Nalla Adi Reddy and AP state unit secretary Mahesh alias Santosh Reddy were killed in what the police described as an encounter between them and a PWG dalam in Karimnagar district this morning.

Seelam Naresh alias Murali, secretary of the north Telangana committee of the PWG was one of the two killed while the fourth, believed to be sentry, was not yet identified.

Adi Reddy, who served as state committee secretary earlier before his elevation, virtually controls the PWG operations though the overall head is Muppala Lakshmana Rao alias Ganapathy.

This is the first time ever in the over three-decade-long history of Naxalite movement in the State that three top ranking leaders were killed by the police in a single encounter. All the three PWG leaders carried a reward of Rs 12 lakh each. According to the DGP, the bodies would be sent to the governmenthospital at Manthani tomorrow for a post-mortem.
