Friends and schoolmates of slain teenager Arushi Talwar took out a candle light march on Tuesday, accusing the police of maligning the image of the girl and also attacking the media for sensationalising the issue.
Friends of Arushi walked from DPS Noida, the victim’s school, up to her residence, covering a distance of one-and-a-half kilometre, to voice their anger towards the police investigation in case.
They marched holding placards with messages such as “We will miss you”, “Justice shall prevail”, “Stop character assassination”.
A friend of Arushi said, “We are very angry with the police. It is almost over ten days and there has been no development till date.” She also pointed out, “Nobody close to Arushi was actually questioned by them.”
“During the investigation, the police have put forth allegations raising doubts regarding the character of Arushi,” another friend of Arushi said.
“The fight is not over. We will not sit silently and tolerate what the police are doing. We will fight till the end,” said Arushi’s best friend Fiza.
Another DPS student alleged, “The whole murder case has been sensationalised by the media and the police. I believe the police have not worked hard on the case. They are not right in whatever they say about her. The police should realise it is a murder case and it should not take it lightly,” she said. Fiza said, “They are defaming her with no evidence.”
