PM, wife call on an ailing Arjun

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and wife Gursharan Kaur visited ailing Union minister for HRD Arjun Singh on Saturday evening at the latter’s Akbar Road residence. An official at the minister’s office said the meeting lasted 25 minutes.

Arjun Singh had to cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia last week due to viral infection but he is well on his way to recovery, according to the official. The minister had skipped the core committee meeting of the Congress on Friday.

The PM’s visit to Arjun Singh gains significance because the latter’s quota proposals had pushed the government to the wall, making Manmohan’s position awkward. However, according to sources, they did not discuss politics in today’s meeting.
