The VHP and the RSS today accused Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee of not putting enough pressure on the UP government to ensure that Rambhakts get a darshan of Lord Ram at the disputed site in Ayodhya on October 17.
On the contrary, the Centre and the state joined hands to launch a ‘‘repression’’ of thousands of Rambhakts who wanted to attend the Sankalp Sabha that day,’’ VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia told reporters here.
He alleged that while the UP government tried to scuttle the Sankalp Sabha, the Centre could not be absolved of its role in the matter. The Centre despatched 147 companies of the CRPF to stop the Rambhakts from exercising their religious, constitutional and democratic rights, he said, adding that the VHP programme was a success despite all repressive measures. Terming the actions of the UP government as a direct attack on the Hindu esteem, the RSS warned that no amount of force would deter the Ramjanmabhoomi movement.
