NEW DELHI, January 15: Nobody has informed my parents about my accident. Please note down my address and telegram them tomorrow. Ask them to come and visit me,'' BMW crash victim Manoj pleads as he lies unattended in ward no C-6 at AIIMS. A heap of blood-stained bandages and orange peels are piled up near his bed. His bedclothes are soiled. He cannot move as both his legs are fractured. He looks expectantly every time somebody walks into the ward. Manoj is an ``unknown patient'' in the AIIMS record book.Till the accident night, Manoj worked at a dhaba on Lodhi Road. The dhaba-owner visited him five days ago. Since then, he has not had any visitors. Except for policemen.``The patient on bed no 38 used to give me food,'' says Manoj. ``But his condition deteriorated this morning. He has been moved to the ICU on the seventh floor. Now I have to depend on hospital attendants for food.'' He comes from a hamlet in the Jajpur district of Orissa. After he completed his studies at the village school, a neighbour brought him to Delhi. ``He promised me a decent job,'' says Manoj. ``But he forgot all his promises once we reached Delhi. I spent all my money. I have spent the last five years working in a string of dhabas in the city.''His friends have not bothered to visit him. ``I guess they don't want anything to do with the police. Policemen often come to question me,'' he says. The day shift nurses had left and those on night duty have just arrived. Manoj has not been offered dinner yet.Mehdi Hassan, another victim of the same crash, is still in coma. He is admitted to the neuro-surgery ICU at AIIMS. He had been taken for an ultrasound test when this reporter came calling. Hassan's father lives in Paharganj. He had visited Hassan five days ago. He never returned. The nurse on duty refused to divulge details from the visitor records.
