Plea to remove ST on gems

TIRUCHI, July 29: The Diamond and Gem Development Corporation has urged the TN Government to follow the example of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan, and do away with the ST on gemstones. Corporation Chairman S N Sharma, in a representation to a committee set up to study the reasons why the gem industry in the State was stagnating, and recommend remedies, attributed the failure of the Tiruchirappalli gem park to resistance from dealers.
