Prompted by the success of the Kathak workshop held last year by Pandit Birju Maharaj, Banyan Tree Events and Nehru Centre have planned an encore.
Beginning on May 25, 1998, Kathak Darpan is essentially for those have already been initiated into this dance form. The five-day workshop will be complemented by three special events 8212; on May 27, Panditji will hold an informal discussion with those uninitiated into Kathak, on May 29 there will be a discussion on Are Indian Dances a Neglected Art Form among renowned dancers from all forms; and on the morning of May 31, there will be a lec-dem by the maestro.
There is no fee for the workshop but it is intended for people who have a strong interest in Kathak and are already initiated into it. Those interested must submit the application forms, available at the Nehru Centre, by May 18, 1997.
