In a joint operation with Uttaranchal Police, Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested two persons from Roorkee allegedly hired by Sher Singh Rana for Rs 1.5 lakh to eliminate a woman, who is a key witness in the Phoolan Devi murder case. The arrest was made following Rana’s interrogation in Delhi, Roorkee SSP Abhinav Kumar said.

The target was Uma Kashyap, whose testimony had already nailed Rana’s crime during trial. “The accused have been identified as Javed and Anuj Kundir, both residents of Roorkee. Kundir is an advocate while Javed has a criminal past with cases of loot and robbery filed against him. Rana had contacted them on phone on April 15 giving directions to kill Kashyap. The plan was to go ahead despite Rana’s arrest last week,” Kumar said. The police also recovered a revolver along with ammunitions from the accused.
