MARCH 1: Peter TRAVASSO stole the show by winning the eighth Castrol Vintage & Classic Car Club of India’s annual rally on Sunday.Travasso, pushing 70, drove his 1919 Fiat type 501 from Vidhan Bhavan to Juhu and back — a distance of 60 kms — with the least number of penalty points, 26. His navigator was Viju Patel.

Monisha Dossa, a second-year student at Sophia College, drew admiration by finishing second with 37PPs in the 1932 Ford Model `B’, which had an all-women crew.

Abbas Jasdanwala came third (54PPS) in a 1930 Pierce Arrow.One of the coveted prizes, the concours d’elegance for cars built before 1940 went to Vivek Goenka’s 1935 Bentley. For cars built between ’41 and ’60, Anand Singhania took the prize for his 1956 Mercedes Benz 300.Mohan Jhagiani and his daughter Bindu Choksi, who dressed as Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturbha respectively, won the S Kumar trophy for the best costume. They came in a 1932 Ford B belonging to Nitin Dossa.

Best restored vintage car (pre ’40s): 1. Anju Dossa’s 1935 Dodge Broz Limousine, 2. Paresh Solanki’s 1928 Ford A.

Best restored classic car (’41-’60): 1. Pheroze Mehta’s 1947 Chrysler Windson, 2. Russy Gandhy’s 1946 Citreon, 3. Nitin Dossa’s 1941 Packard 110.

Best performance by a car built between ’41-’60: 1. Gautam Ashra’s 1956 Humber Hawk, 2. Reza Abid Ali’s 1950 Morris Minor, 3. Anand Singhania’s 1956 Mercedes 300.

Car driven longest distance for the rally: Subhash Goregaonkar’s 1947 Oldsmobile.

Best Women crew: Monisha Dossa in 1932 Ford B.
