AGARTALA: The Tripura police sought permission of the Agartala Bench of the Gauhati High Court to arrest a civil judge who allegedly tortured his wife. The wife had lodged a complaint on July 4, saying her husband Somnath Gangopaddhyay, a civil judge of the Udaipur sub-division of the South Tripura district, was torturing her for dowry, the police said.

Hooda wants N- plant proposal in 11th Plan

NEW DELHI: The Haryana government on Saturday requested the Centre to include a proposal for a nuclear power plant in the state in the Eleventh Plan. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, also requested a role for his state in the central mega power projects, citing Punjab’s share in the Lara Project in Chhattisgarh.

Uttaranchal: Bus accident kills 23

DEHRA DUN: At least 23 people were killed and seven injured when a bus carrying 30 people fell into a gorge near Bhagirathi River in the Uttarkashi district on Saturday. The bus was on its way to Gangotri from Haridwar. So far only seven bodies have been identified.
