Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar today ruled out formation of a Third Front at the Centre, saying that there was no space now for such a grouping in the polity.
‘‘My party’s strength in the Lok Sabha is nine. How can I hope to create a miracle on this basis,’’ he told reporters at a party convention here.
‘‘I think in this country, there will be only two major formations, those led by the Congress and the BJP,’’ he said.
Pawar, Union Agriculture Minister, denied that he was part of any ‘‘pressure group’’ within the UPA government.
On his response to such a group floated by TRS leader Chandrasekar Rao, Pawar said he had met Rao but no such proposal was discussed. ‘‘I went to his residence after he suffered fracture in his leg. He suggested that we and other UPA partners should first discuss the formation of a separate Telangana state.’’
