With the volatile situation in Manipur demanding as much attention as J-K, Home Minister Shivraj Patil has decided to visit both the trouble-torn areas — the North-East and Kashmir — next month.

His three-day visit to the North-East will begin on September 4, and his trip to Kashmir will commence later in the month, from September 24.

The Centre today took stock of the security in J-K and asked Home Secretary Dhirendra Singh to prepare a plan for redeployment of the paramilitary forces in the state. According to sources, he has been asked to assess the scope for deployment of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), which had earlier been put on hold due to some security lapses.

Day 3: Furniture flies in J-K House
Srinagar: The Legislative Council in J-K was adjourned for the third day on Monday amid chaotic scenes over the J-K Women’s Bill.

As Chairman Abdul Rasheed Dar began Question Hour, NC members demanded the Bill be brought back in its original shape. They accused Minister of State for Rural Development Gharu Ram of using ‘‘unparliamentary’’ language and rushed to the Well and began tearing up papers and overturning furniture. Members of the ruling coalition also rushed to the Well and Minister of State for Social Welfare Ghulam Hassan Khan tried to hurl a wooden railing towards the NC members.
