Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil held an inter-ministerial meeting today to review allocations from the National Calamity Contingency Fund, following floods and drought-like situations in different parts of the country.
Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh, Finance Secretary D.C. Gupta and representatives from other ministries attended the meeting.
They discussed the funds needed to tackle natural calamities in several states, official sources said. As per the existing scheme for financing relief expenditure, the Centre supplements the state government’s relief and rehabilitation efforts by providing financial and logistical support wherever necessary. — (PTI)
