Parveen and Surender set National bench press marks

NEW DELHI, July 23: Praveen Khanna of Delhi was adjudged the Strong Man of India after he created a new National record by lifting 215.500kg weight in 100kg category in the recently concluded Senior National Bench Press Championship held at Kenonjhar (Orissa). The previous record was set by Tajender Singh of Delhi.

Another Delhi youngster Surinder Yadav also created a new National record lifting 185.500kg in the 90 kg weight section. The previous record in this category was set by Balvinder Sing of Punjab State Electricity Board. The versatile bodybuilder, Surinder Yadav has also won the Mr Haryana title.

The third Delhi boy to win a medal for the state was Krishan Singh, who clinched bronze in 75kg class lifting 150kg weight.

Incidentally, all three powerlifters come from Bhupinder Dhawan’s stable, an internationl fame coach and train at The Gym Health Club (Hudson Line).

The three powerlifter were honoured by Indian Gym Federation and Indian Body Building Federation honoured at Bodyline Gym (Gurgaon) at a function recently. On this occasion, Madhav Pujari, General Secretary IBBF, and Rajinder Sharma President of IGF announced cash award (for both the record holders) of Rs 10,000 and Rs 2,000 to Krishan Singh.

IBBF and IGF will jointly organise a body building championship in August according to Madhav Pujari.

Chess tournament
Delhi Chess Association will organise the Delhi State Sr (men) chess championship from July 26 at Guru Harkishan Public School (India Gate). Four players will be selected fom this meet to represent Delhi State in the National B Chess Championship at Mumbai. Entry Fee is Rs 100.
