PATNA, DEC 18: That Bihar holds the key to the electoral success of the Congress, has become crystal clear to party leaders. As a result, party president Sonia Gandhi who, till recently, was not willing to devote much of her time to Bihar, has changed her strategy.

As a prelude to Sonia’s exercise of revamping the Congress in the state through several visits, the party leadership has planned a reorientation camp for Bihar leaders in Delhi in the last week of December.

The Congress leaders from Bihar would have to suggest economic and social changes for the state as well as measures to boost the image of the organisation.

It is apparent that Sonia Gandhi has chalked out an ambitious programme to revamp the party’s image in Bihar. The Congress, though not eager to join hands with Left parties, would prefer to adopt a Leftist stance in the state. This, according to senior leaders, would benefit the party in wooing the Backwards and Dalits.
