NEW DELHI, April 28: Invaluable records of freedom fighters and Partition rehabilitation packages were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Home Ministry offices housed in tin-roof huts in the Jaisalmer House building at Mansingh Road this afternoon. Wisps of smoke were first seen coming from the rooms at around 1.30 pm.

Once the tar-coating on the roof caught fire, the hutments soon became a raging inferno. Officials said that the hutments were used to store the records of freedom fighters as well as the rehabilitation package awarded to those displaced during the Partition. They were usually kept locked. It took about an hour and 20 fire-tenders to put out the medium intensity8217; fire.
