PANAJI, FEB 5: Senior leaders of national parties — Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and the United Front — including Prime Minister Inder Kumar Jujaral will descend on Goa most probably in the third week of this month to campaign for their party candidates in the State.

Although Goa sends only two representatives to the Lok Sabha, it has not reduced its significance in Central politics. While Congress star campaigner Sonia Gandhi visited Goa late last month, BJP leaders L K Advani and Atal Behari Vajpayee are slated to arrive here soon. Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Ramakant Khalap has already managed to persuade United Front heavy weights to canvas for him in Goa.

Besides Gujral, other UF leaders expected to visit the State include former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and CPI leader A B Bardhan.

Besides Sonia Gandhi, the Congress party is also trying to rope in leaders like Madhavrao Scindia andGulam Nabi Azad to assist in the campaigning. Most of these leaders are expected to start arriving in Goa by mid-February.
