After vowing to ‘‘free’’ the country of pseudo-secularists and the proponents of disinvestment, and some Hindu shrines across the country, the Sangh Parivar today set a rather uphill task for itself — the liberation of Kailash Mansarovar in the Himalayas from the clutches of China.
Indresh Kumar, the Sangh’s ace pracharak, announced a campaign from October 7. Though the task of taking on Beijing has been assigned to the little-known Himalaya Parivar, an outfit floated by the RSS a year ago, the VHP will be lending its manpower and resources.
RSS calls meet on economic policies

NAGPUR: The RSS has called a two-day meeting of about 150 Sangh Parivar leaders on November 27 to discuss the Centre’s economic policies. Sources said that the meeting has been called after the Prime Minister rejected a demand by Bharatiya Majdoor Sangh (BMS) founder Dattopant Thengdi and Parivar leader Mohan Bhagwat that India walk out of WTO. The demand was reportedly made at a meeting in New Delhi last week. (ENS) |
Kumar is the prant-pracharak of the RSS in Jammu and Kashmir and the brain behind the Jammu State Morcha. Flanked by VHP vice-president Giriraj Kishore, Swami Vigyanananda, member of the VHP Margdarshak Mandal, and Buddhist leader Lama Zogpa from Ladakh, Kumar demanded a review of the Government policy on China and Tibet and sought the return of Indian territory occupied by Beijing in 1962.
Kumar said the fortnight-long campaign will mobilise public opinion against terrorism, conversions in the Himalayas and the current ‘‘onslaught on the region’s culture and ecology’’. ‘‘Our main objective is to make the people resolve to liberate Kailash Mansarovar,’’ Kumar said.
Lama Zogpa said that they wished to persuade China to recognise the rights of the people of Tibet. Swami Vigyanananda wondered how long would the country avoid demanding a restoration of its territory. It is time that historical wrongs be undone, he said.
For Vajpayee, who is due to visit China soon, the timing would not have been worse.
