PANCHKULA, Aug 22: The residents of the township have urged the Chandiagrh administration to construct and connect Panchkula by an extended road from Industrial Area-I to Sector 16/17 via Colony No 4 and across the railway line and also widen the existing road towards Mauli village.

The residents have been complaining that since there is only one road linking Panchkula to Chandigarh, traffic jams are common and in case of accidents, the traffic is diverted to some unplanned roads, putting the commuters to a lot of inconvenience.

The President of the Citizens’ Welfare Association has said that the other satellite township, Mohali, has at least seven to eight roads linking it to Chandigarh. Whereas, he added, the residents of this township are still facing the inconvenience for the last 27 years. The township was established in 1972.

The association president said that the Chandigarh administration has sought the approval of the Union government for construction of two new link roads and one via Manimajra passing through Kishangarh and Sector 26.
