Paes, world’s top ranked doubles player, and his partner Bjorkman trounced the Aussie pair in a one-sided quarter final match 6-2, 6-3.

Paes is playing ATP tour events with the Swede as his regular partner Mahesh Bhupathi is recovering from an abdominal injury sustained during their successful campaign at the Wimbledon championships last month.

They will now clash with the South African-American pair of John Laffine de Jager and Jim Grab, who had defeated the Swedish pair of Thomas Enqvist and Magnus Larsson in a hard fought quarter final duel 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

In the other semi Martin Damm of the Czech Republic and his American partner Adam Peterson will clash with the Australian pair of Lieyton Hewitt and Mark Woodforde.

Paes, who is ranked 129th in the singles had earlier made a first round exit from the singles when he succumbed to unheralded Eric Taino of the US on Tuesday.
