Festive fashion

It8217;s D-Day in just a week. Yes, Diwali is almost upon us and soon the round of card parties and festivities will take off. Don8217;t get bogged down by the business of what to wear 8212; let Pallavi Jaikishan help you out. Every year, this designer holds an exhibition of her collection at the Oberoi8217;s Rooftop. This year, you can nibble canapes and enjoy a cup of coffee while you pore over her outfits. Expect the magic of modern fabrics, like net, to conjure up an old world charm. In pastel colours, she has even introduced animal prints to her collection. Each garment is adorned with her trademark sequins and fine thread embroidery.

At the Malabar Room, the Oberoi Hotel, Nariman Point. On Oct 29. Time: 11.00 am to 6.00 pm.

Casual chic

If you are looking for something a little less formal, then Ensemble may be well worth a dekko. As of yesterday, 11 of their designers unveiled their fall collection. There is Monisha Jaising8217;s knitted separates, Wendell Rodrick8217;s Indo-Western wearand Rinku Rajani8217;s funky western wear. For those in the mood for something more ethnic, there is Kotwara, Muzzafar Ali8217;s designer label, which specialises in embroidered sarees and kameezes as well as the Ensemble Design Studio8217;s own collection to choose from.

Haute cotton

There are great Diwali options for men too. Check out Koutons, a premium brand of cotton trousers that claims to have created the perfect trouser for the new generation man. The special Eel Skin finish of the trousers, evolved using a unique formula imported from Switzerland, acts like a coating on the finished garments, making them perennially soft and immune to damage from frequent home washing. The finish also imbues the trousers with a permanent sheen which prevents the garment from going limp. What8217;s more, their anti-wrinkle texture makes them very easy to iron at home. Available in chinos, soft pin tucks and BeatnikCorduroys, the range comes in both double pleated and classic cuts.

Available in leading multibrand stores. For further details, contact: 437 8548.

Craft bazaar

If you have a yen for things ethnic, here8217;s something to look forward to. Dastakar, the Delhi-based organisation for crafts and craftspeople, is bringing together 20 rural-based traditional crafts groups to Mumbai. Titled Bombay Bazaar8217;, the exhibition will have a wide variety of handicrafts from various parts of India 8212; including bandhinis, hand-block printed and patchwork garments, soft furnishings, contemporary embroidered leather bags, traditional juttis and semi-precious jewellery.
