
MUMBAI, May 13: The 18th Optimist Class National championships, sponsored by Sunny 7RP Products, will be held from May 14-18 off the Pilot Bunder, South Mumbai. A record number of 26 entries have been received, with the competitors coming from various clubs Sea Cadet Corps, Corps of Engineering Sailing Club and Royal Madras Yacht Club.
After the National championships, an intensive coaching camp will be held to train the team which will participate in the sailing championships in Korea and the Asian Games in Thailand in 1998.

YOUNG Atish Walinjkar’s unbeaten 164 formed the basis of MG Vartak’s massive 211-run victory over Bharat Cricket Club in the third under-14 cricket tournament for the Santosh Kumar Ghosh trophy at the Shivaji Park, here, today.
In other matches of the day, Parel Sporting, New Hind, Bengal CC and New Social too recorded emphatic victories over their rivals respectively.
Rohan Indurkar ensured a Parel SC victory by claiming four wickets for miserly five runs. Batting first Parel SC made 219 for five, and later bowled out Kamath Memorial SC for just 86 runs.
Harshad Rawle had similar figures for Bengal CC in their eight-wicket win over United CC. Batting first United made 61, which Bengal CC crossed in just 10.2 overs.
Rahul Yadav turned in a good all-round performance for New Hind CC, taking three for 24, and later returning to score 46 runs as they beat Rajasthan CC by eight wickets.
