Mumbai, Nov 14: What Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly did at Sharjah yesterday, Shirish Mandrekar and Soham Dalvi did for Shardashram today. The opening pair put on a record 209 for the first wicket as Shardashram Vidyamandir (English) throttled IES Modern English, Dadar by 129 runs in the city final of the Multigames Inter-school u-16 cricket tournament for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy at Sachivalaya.
In the process, the duo established a few milestones. They notched the tournament’s largest total. Shirish scored the first century of the season, 10 fours and one six studding his 100. Soham was unlucky to get his, remaining unbeaten on 92 (8×4). The two were helped along by some shoddy IES fielding, receiving two charmed lives apiece. The target of 227 was a tall order for IES Modern, and they could manage just 97. Yesterday, IES had qualified for the final by ending debutante Antonio De Silva’s good run with a four-wicket win.
