CHANDIGARH, Oct 20: The Chandigarh Sangeet Sammelan which sets the mood for the season of musical festivals will be the weekend fare. Organised religiously by the Indian National Theatre, the 21st Sammelan features both old hands and new artists. So come Friday, the Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan will resound with the notes of classical music as the curtain goes up to the "classicist” Vijaya Jadhav Gatlewar’s "alaap”.

Friday is devoted to vocal music as the buffs will get to hear the famous duo, Rajan and Sajan Misra, too. Saturday has an equal mix of instrumental and vocal music. Narendra Nath Dhar, who teaches at the Bhatkhande Music University in Lucknow and is a very talented Sarod player of the upcoming generation, will strike the commencement note. Vocal music will come from Shanti Sharma, whose placid singing style is a highly awaited feature this time.

And to bring the curtain down on the three-day long event, the organisers have arranged for a morning with Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (who the residents of Chandigarh never tire of hearing) . The concert on Friday and Saturday will start at 8.15 pm and the Sunday morning session is at 10.30 am.
