MUMBAI, Aug 8: Close on the heels of the murder of 78-year-old woman, Tehmi Bhagat, at Kemps Corner on Wednesday, an elderly couple was found brutally murdered in their Churchgate residence on Saturday morning.

Seventy-five-year-old, Sarabhai Maneklal Chinoy and his 65-year-old wife, Tasvina Chinoy, were living alone in their 4th floor apartment at Shree Niketan building at Maharshi Karve road, behind Central Excise building. The two were found in a pool of blood on Saturday morning when their maid and some neighbours broke open the door at around 8.00 am after finding no response from the couple. The police, who found stab wounds all over the bodies, surmise that the murders must have taken place between 7 and 8 am as Sarabhai was spotted by the building watchman at 6.45 am when, as was his routine, he came down to buy bread for breakfast. The police also do not rule out the possibility of the murderer being known to the family as the assailant had used the rear door of the flat to escape.

Talking to ENS,Sr PI of Azad Maidan police station, S M Sonar, said “nothing can be said about the killings so far. We are not even certain whether it was robbery or old enmity. We are yet to speak to their relatives and neighbours.” The Chinoy couple was living alone since Sarabhai’s retirement a decade ago.
