In what has caused severe embarrassment to the Madhya Pradesh police, a woman officer has filed a complaint against senior IPS officer and Bhopal SP Pawan Shrivastava alleging he had misbehaved with her in an inebriated state.

The officer, Anita Malviya, of the SC category, filed the complaint in the Anusuchit Jati Kalyan police station on Tuesday, where she is posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

On Saturday night, a meeting was convened by the SP at the PCR to take stock of the registration of offences and their follow-ups. Police sources said Shrivastava had ticked off Malviya alleging there were discrepancies in the maintenance of the register. The SP had even directed Malviya and in charge of the AJK police station, Laxmi Khuswah, to leave the meeting.

Upset, Malviya filed the complaint on Tuesday. ‘‘I had no option. He was in an inebriated state and called the meeting late at night,’’ she said, adding: ‘‘he began misbehaving with us and even abused us. He asked us to go and even ordered detaining our official vehicle. We were dropped at the police station in a mobile van. The SP even told the press that I had presented tampered documents at the meeting. The intention was to harass and belittle us.’’

Denying the charges, SP Shrivastava said: ‘‘At the routine meetings convened to take stock of the work, officials at times are pulled up for non-performance. There is nothing personal about it.’’

An inquiry has been ordered and state DGP S.K. Das said the IGP, Bhopal Range, would submit a report on the case and action could be initiated. He, however, added that the officer could have used internal grievance redressal mechanism instead of going public.
