The Centre today decided to include some more castes in the Central List of Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The Cabinet, presided over by the Prime Minister, approved the inclusion/amendment/new entry of the new castes in Andhra, which goes to polls early next year.
After the meeting, a Government spokesman informed that Turupukappu and Gajula Kapu of Srikakulam, Viziananagaram and Visakhapatnam districts, and Jatika, Katika, Quresh have been included in the OBC list of Andhra. Yadav (Gwala, Ahir, Gope, Sadgope, Saikalar (Sikligar-Muslim) in Bihar, Kumhar/Ghumiar, Prajapati, Parajpatra in Punjab, Kannada Saineegar, Kannadiyar in Tamil Nadu and Dasapalanjika, Mali, Saini, Baghabnand Pathar in Uttar Pradesh and Thami in Sikkim have also been included in the list.

NEW DELHI: Jayant Prasad, Joint secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, was on Tuesday appointed as ambassador and permanent representative of India to the UN Conference on Disarmament in Geneva. Prasad, who takes charge from Rakesh Sood, was looking after Americas in the MEA. Among other appointments, Alok Prasad, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Washington, has been posted as India’s next high commissioner to Singapore, succeeding P P Shukla. (PTI) |
