State authorities are keeping a tab on the alleged rape of a Goan maid in Kuwait, an official from the NRI Cell in Panaji said on Saturday.The incident of rape is yet to be confirmed by Goa's Non-resident Indian (NRI) Commissioner's office."We have written to the Indian consulate to get back to us with the details of the case and its update. We will get it on Monday or Tuesday," Ulhas Kamat, Director, Goa NRI Cell, said."Usually when such incident happens, their Goan relatives rush to our office with the complaint or plea to help. But in this case, no one has come," Kamat said.A section of Gulf media carried a story about a 27-year-old Goan maid raped by an Arab boy in Kuwait. The boy, according to the report in the newspaper, is a son of her employer.The maid, reportedly, has taken shelter in Indian Embassy in Kuwait. She was employed in Kuwaiti household in Surra."We are yet to confirm anything in this case. Yesterday the embassy was closed so our communication will reach to them only on Sunday. We will get the information by Monday or Tuesday," Kamat said.Goa has lakhs of its citizens working abroad especially in the Gulf countries in various skilled and non- skilled jobs. The state on the western coast along with Kerala is amongst the states, which has large number of people working abroad.
