
The much-awaited Cabinet reshuffle is likely to happen on Sunday with the swearing in of a dozen ministers followed by even larger changes in portfolios.
Although there was no official communication to the President’s Office until late tonight to book Darbar hall for that day, sources said the stage is set for Sunday since there are no dates until February 9 when both Prime Minister and the President are available and free.
Monday, January 30, is not feasible since both the President and the PM will be at ceremonies to mark the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.
On Tuesday, the President leaves for a three-nation tour and gets back on February 9, leaving very little time before the Budget to make the changes, they added.
The PM has a heavy international schedule after that with Australian Prime Minister and French President slated to visit India.
Moreover, the budget session starts on February 16 leaving a very thin margin for ministers to acquaint themselves with their newly allocated departments.
The UPA government, Congress in particular, has to fill in six slots—four Cabinet and two State ministers—that have fallen vacant either due to resignations or the demise of the ministers.
