MARCH 26: The saying — `the smaller the field greater is the danger’ once again proved to be right. The Nawabzada Rashidyzzaffar Khan Trophy, 2000 metres, could attract only two runners. By and large San Marino Star was considered a certainty but he lost to Noble One. The result was shocking.

Noble One (S S Baria up) set a very slow pace and the favourite who was guided by B Prakash prefered to be within the shadow of the leader. The same pattern continued till 300 metres to home. Thereafter both the runners were alerted to speed up their strides and it appeared that San Marino Star would oblige but finally lost in photofinish by margin of `short head’.

The recorded time of the event — 2 mins 21.64 seconds — speaks volumes. The stewards took serious note of poor handling of the favourite and jockey B Prakash is suspended for five days for injudicious riding and giving misleading evidence.
