LONDON, March 7: Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, daughters of Fergie and Prince Andrew, could be stripped of the title “Royal Highness” in planned reforms to the British monarchy, it was reported on Saturday.

The proposals, part of the changes spurred by the outpouring of grief and criticism of the royal family in the wake of the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, are being considered by the palace and Prime Minister Tony Blair’s office, The Sun newspaper said.

They include restricting the style “His or Her Royal Highness” to senior Royals and making bowing and curtseying to royals voluntary. The reported plans followed the news Friday that Queen Elizabeth II is to allow the British national flag, the Union Jack, to fly over Buckingham Palace at all times when she is not in residence.

Although ostensibly cosmetic, the move was seen as significant as the lack of a Union Jack at half mast became the focus of public criticism of a royal family seen as aloof in the aftermath of Diana’s death.
