No need for quota in Meghalaya: KSU

The Khasi Students’ Union has submitted a memorandum to Oversight Committee chairman Veerappa Moily and North Eastern Hills University

.

The Khasi Students’ Union has submitted a memorandum to Oversight Committee chairman Veerappa Moily and North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor Pramod Tandon opposing 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in higher and technical education.

KSU president Samuel Jyrwa said the KSU will oppose any attempt to implement reservation for OBCs in NEHU or any Central higher education institutions set up or proposed to be set up in the state. He said the V-C, who is a member of a sub-committee, agreed with the KSU that there should be no reservation for OBCs as Meghalaya was a tribal state. He said Meghalaya was a tribal state dominated by Schedule Tribes and didn’t have an OBC population.

Jyrwa said attempts to implement reservation forcefully would be met with protests.
