Major insurgent organisations in Manipur on Friday denied involvement in the killings of migrant labourers this week. In separate statements, United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Kanglei Yawol Kann Lup (KYKL) and People’s Revolutionary party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) said they had nothing to do with the killing of 15 migrant labourers across the state. The KYKL said the statement of Director General of Police Y Joy Kumar, saying that the outfit might be involved in the killings, was an attempt to tarnish their image. The UNLF said the situation in Manipur was warlike, and for their own safety migrant labourers should refrain from coming to Manipur.Earlier, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) had said it had nothing to do with the killings. Altogether 15 migrant labourers were killed by unidentified gunmen between Monday and Wednesday. No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility. Chits saying “go back to your state” were pasted on to the backs of some of the victims. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh visited several relief camps in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur. The Chief Minister told the people not to panic as his Government was doing its best to nab the culprits who were very few in number with two of them already been killed. The two militants, suspected to be involved in the killing of seven of the 15 migrant labourers, were shot dead by security forces in Imphal West district on Wednesday night.Singh pulled up the district officials after listening to the grievances of the inmates about inadequate food. He instructed the respective deputy commissioners to provide the essential items.
