MUMBAI, MARCH 27: New India Assurance left nothing to chance. They defeated Oriental by 24 runs to win the third All-India General Insurance cricket tournament at the Parsi Gymkhana, today.
New India thus won all their matches in the five-team league. A reverse could well have resulted in a triple tie as United India beat National in the other concluding fixture at the Islam Gymkhana.
Electing to bat, New India built up a total of 258 for five in the allotted 45 overs thanks to an opening stand of 84 between Sameer Samant and Jagdish Shetty (107 off 124 balls, 13 fours).
