JAMSHEDPUR, JAN 13: The JMM (Mardi) and a faction of JMM (S) have merged to form Akhil Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (AJMM) to intensify the movement for unification of different Jharkhand parties, AJMM chief Convenor and JMM (S) General Secretary Sudhir Mahato said today.

The decision to form the new party was taken at a convention last night, Mahato told a press conference here. AJMM has support of six MLAs, he added.

The two leaders demanded a special session of Parliament on Vananchal /Jharkhand issue before budget session, while extending full support to the Vananchal bill. Greater Jharkhand would be the aim, however, they maintained.

The 32-member committee of AJMM would meet on January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, at Bokaro, Mahato said. The first three-day convention would be held at Ranchi from January 26.

Surya Singh Besra, former MLA and Chief Secretary of Jharkhand Peoples Party, said about 90 Jharkhand groups from this region, including Jharkhand Party (NAREN) have pledged their support to the new party.

He said JPP and AJSU would also extend support for the Ranchi convention.
