Not everyone can be Glenn McGrath. His ability to hit the same spot with amazing consistency is too well known but what people may not know is his razor-sharp memory and that he can reel out the names, exact mode — and the plot — of dismissal of each of his victims in international cricket.
The rest need not panic. There’s an easier method to find information on players’ fascinating career statistics: a click of the mouse at ICC’s new website would do.
The portal — lgiccrankings.com — has several interesting facets, including a never-before data access that allows users to compare the current players with that of all time great and take a statistical view of who amongst them is better.
For example, a comparison between Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar shows that Gavaskar’s all-time high rating at 916 has been better than Tendulkar’s 898 but the latter has stayed a longer time at the top. It also has a list of all-time greats and, interestingly, the only Indian representation in the top-10 comes in form of current Indian coach Greg Chappell!
Apart from providing the basic top-100 ranking of Test and ODI players, the website also provides date-specific ranking which allows fans to know where the player stood on an exact date, besides interesting trivia. The rankings will be segmented further into batsmen, bowlers and in all-rounder category.
