Maoist rebels who abducted three officials of Surya Nepal, a subsidiary of ITC Ltd, are planning to swap them with their arrested leaders.
Sources said that Communist Party of Nepal-Maoists (CPN-M)’s trade union wing may demand the release of its leader Parvati Thapa who was arrested last week.
Surya Nepal’s manufacturing unit chief Prabhakar Bikram Shah and managers Dambar Mani Limbu and Sarbajit Rana were kidnapped last Friday from Birgunj.
Demanding their “unconditional release”, a company statement sought to dispel the impression that it had any links to the Royal family: “The company is not involved in the political conflict and it has a history of excellent employer-employee relationship”.
