As authorities extended curfew and the death toll from police firing in the past week rose to six , Prime Minister G P Koirala invited to dialogue groups led by the Madhesh Janadhikar Forum agitating for autonomy for the southern plains.

“This nation belongs to all. Let’s solve the terai problem in that spirit and through dialogue,” Koirala said.

Koirala’s call for dialogue comes at a time when the Maoists as well as Home Minister K P Sitaula are blaming the king for instigating the unrest.

A ruling party leader who refused to be identified accused the RSS of fomenting violence, pointing to Forum president Upendra Yadav’s participation in a RSS meeting at Gorakhpur recently.
