AMRITSAR, June 8: Amarjit Singh, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, after inspecting the flood protection work on Dhussi dam this morning disclosed that Rs 1.5 crore were urgently needed to counter the revetment erected near Veroke post in Pakistan which has posed a serious threat to Dhussi dam on river Ravi in Ajnala sector, in wake of the coming monsoon season.
In a press release here today, he said the demand for money had already been brought to the notice of state level senior government officials of drainage department who had visited the area a few days back.
Bhupinder Singh Walia, sub-divisional magistrate Ajnala and other senior drainage department officials accompanied the DC to Singhoke, Sharan Band, Kamalpur Post, Chaharpur, Chandigarh post, Dhian Singh Pura post and Kakkar areas and directed officials to complete the protection work before June 15.XEN Drainage, R. S. Padda said that the maximum flow of water at Saharan dam was 8 lacs cubics last year and arrangements were being made for the flow of more than 9 lakh cubics of water this year. He said a project costing Rs 70 lakh was on the move to strengthen the spurs, studs and revetment work etc. and similarly, Rs 40 lakh and Rs 30 lakh were being spent on strengthening work at Singhoke and Chahaarpur complex respectively.
The DC also visited the 3.5 km long Shahpur to Dhian Singh Pura post special band which was being funded by the Government of India at the cost of Rs 95 lakh to benefit important border security posts and to protect more than 15,000 acres of agriculture land from floods.
