The New Delhi Television (NDTV) has won the Commonwealth Broadcasters Award (CBA) for its exceptional news feature titled Hunger.
The award-winning NDTV team comprised its special correspondent Barkha Dutt, producer Rachna Prasad, cameraperson Ajmal Jami and editors Gopi and Adarsh, and the production team of Hiranya for graphics and Production Assistants Sonal Paul and Prerna Chabbra.
Announcing the award in London last night, CBA said: ‘‘The judges felt Hunger by New Delhi Television Ltd was a very strong report, on an old subject which is not currently fashionable, though it ought to be. “It was difficult to shoot because of the isolation of the village and the lack of assistance from the authorities. The impact of the story was such that it was later used as evidence in a court case.’’
Yesterday, New Delhi Television was awarded the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association-International Broadcasting Convention Award for cost-effective engineering — in this case the use of a laptop computer to digitise and transfer video over telephone lines to get pictures from the field to the studio.
NDTV’s methods are compatible with any available communications systems — from phone lines to satellite. Judges felt the ‘‘difference shows on screen’’.
