The NDA-sponsored bandh in Bihar — meant to protest the dissolution of the assembly — passed peacefully despite the police detaining over 75 activists and a few leaders of the alliance.

State BJP President Gopal Narayan Singh and his JD(U) counterpart Vijendra Yadav were taken in police custody as they led a procession from the state BJP office to the Dak bungalow roundabout. The bandh supporters, who were trying to block the roundabout, had clashed with the police.

Processions were taken out in other parts of the city as shopkeepers on main roads downed their shutters. Banks, however, were open and attendance in government offices normal.

Private bus operators suspended their services across the state as a precautionary measure.
