BELLARY (KARNATAKA), AUG 14: Non-bailable warrant has been issued against Rajya Sabha member K C Kondaiah, two Karnataka ministers, an MLA and another person by a court at Sandur here in connection with cases booked against them by Railway Police nearly two years ago.
The first class judicial magistrate directed the police to produce Kondaiah, ministers Allum Veerabhadrappa and M Diwakar Babu, and Shiraj Sheikh, MLA, and Dodda Ramanna, a Zilla Panchayat vice-president before the court on September 16.
The cases booked by the Railway Police pertained to detention of Vijayawada-Vasco Amaravathi Express at Torangallu Railway station for more than an hour in September 1998 by hundreds of people who resorted to the protest under the leadership of Kondiah, Veerabhadrappa, Babu and Sheikh and raised slogans.
Their agitation was to "pressure" the Railways to start work on the Rs 65 crore Kottur-Harihar Railway line (60 km), a demand pending for long.
The Railway Police had booked cases against Kondaiah, who was then District Congress Committee president, and others for obstructing the train and also for raising slogans.
