The national athletic season will kick off with a Rs 3 lakh athletic circuit meet at the Jawarlal Nehru stadium here on May 1, a press release from the Amateur Athletic Federation of India said here today. The meet is the first of the three-leg circuit.

The caravan will move to Bangalore for the second meet on May 5 and to Chennai for the final meet on May 7. Started in 1994, the circuit aims at increasing the competition level among the athletes, AAFI secretary-general Lalit K Bhanot said.

Leading athletes including P Anil Kumar, Shakti Singh, Jagdish Singh, KM Beenamol, Neelam J Singh, Anju B George and Manjuma Kuriakose will compete in 13 events which carry a prize money of Rs. 12,000 for the winner.
