The Shiv Sena today demanded a public apology from BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu for his remarks on construction of a mosque next to a temple in Ayodhya as a compromise formula.

In a statement, Delhi Shiv Sena vice-president Abhimanyu Gulati charged the BJP with adopting a Muslim appeasement policy. He said the BJP chief had played a joke on the religious feelings of Hindus. The Sena leader demanded that Naidu should tender a public apology for the statement.

Due to this ‘‘double role’’ of the BJP, Hindus have lost faith in the party, he said, adding the majority community would not compromise on the Ayodhya issue and no mosque could be allowed to be constructed anywhere on the land. of the Ram Temple Trust.
