The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to drop the case booked against Opposition Congress MLA Konda Surekha under POTA.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made an announcement to this effect today in the wake of the police action against Surekha evoking severe criticism from the Opposition which accused the government of pursuing ‘‘vindictive politics.’’

At an impromptu press meet in Medak, Naidu said police had looked at Surekha’s ‘‘connections’’ with the outlawed PW. ‘‘But at government level, we look at it from the political plane,’’ he said. Warangal police registered a case under POTA against Surekha, her husband and 17 others, claiming they had conspired to kill Government Whip E. Dayakar Rao and had sought the help of a top PW leader.
