The CPM will analyse the forthcoming UPA-Left deliberations on October 22 on the nuclear deal when the ‘real intention’ of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the 123 Agreement would be known, a top party leader has said.
CPM Politburo member Biman Bose said, “I will not comment on what the Prime Minister said yesterday. Whether his attitude is soft or rigid on the nuclear deal will be known on October 22.”
CPM has decided to defer its Politburo meeting in New Delhi slated for October 18 to take a stand on the nuclear issue and a new date would be announced later, he was on Saturday quoted by party mouthpiece Ganasakti as saying.
Singh had on Friday said the failure to carry the deal through would not be ‘the end of life’.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi said the Left parties, which were opposing the deal, were not being ‘unreasonable’ and the government was not looking for a confrontation with them.
