MUMBAI, MARCH 31: Additional Sessions Judge S M Deshmukh today sentenced three persons including a woman to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering a 63-year-old housewife at Santacruz in 1995 and later their accomplice following differences in the distribution of the booty.
According to police inspector Vilas Tupe, Damayanti Jaswant Pandya was found murdered in her flat at Santacruz on the afternoon of December 15, 1995. Her body was found with hands tied and gagged and valuables worth Rs 1.30 lakh was found missing.
A fortnight later, police arrested Malama Bhim Maku (25), her husband Raju Dondayya Maku alias Bhim (28) and Srinivas Rajanna Pendhari alias Shreenu (27), all employed as domestic servants in the Santacruz area.
During interrogation by the police, it was revealed that the trio had killed their accomplice Bandanna after differences surfaced over the distribution of the stolen property. The trio dumped Bandanna’s body in the Oshiwara creek. Special public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan appeared for the state while Ashok Panhalkar appeared for the accused.
